Protecting Today's World for Tomorrow
New Major in Environmental Science and Technology
As the global population soars and countries strive to elevate
their industrial and economic status, our natural environment
is being challenged like never before. A new major in Environmental
Science and Technology offers University of Maryland
students a chance to play a vital role in preserving and
protecting our environment. Available for the first time
in the fall 2008 semester, this new major features four
areas of concentration:
1) Ecological Technology Design
2) Environmental Health
3) Natural Resources Management
4) Soil and Watershed Science
These complementary and interrelated concentrations
involve forward-thinking, cutting-edge curricula that will
give students the knowledge and skills necessary to deal
with increasingly severe environmental conditions and prepare
them for careers investigating environmental problems and
designing solutions that manage, mitigate or even reverse
negative ecological impacts. For more information, visit
