Be Prepared
for Emergencies
The Department of Public Safety wants
you to be prepared for emergencies that may affect the campus.
Taking a few minutes to familiarize yourself with emergency
plans and procedures may help to save lives and reduce injuries.

Here you will find:
Emergency Notification Platforms
- UMD Alert Text Messaging System: Receive real-time
information on campus emergencies
- Subscribe at alert.umd.edu
or text UMD to 411911 from your device
- Early Warning Siren System: Sirens will activate and
will alert you to seek shelter and then seek information
about the emergency
- Alertus System: Alertus boxes located in 20 on campus
buildings will alert and have a text message related to
the emergency
