Homecoming 2009: Let Your iMagination Run Wild!
Homecoming 2009: Let Your iMagination Run Wild is Oct. 11-17, and features a full week of events! Whether you're interested in making your permanent mark on campus by planting a tree, promoting your class or organization at the Penny Wars, Ice Cream Social or Homecoming Parade, or showing your Maryland pride at the Kick-off, Pep Rally, Post-Parade Party, or Homecoming football game, there's something for everyone!
All week long, the classes will compete in penny wars, with collection jugs at every event. Bring your change and win money for your class. Starting Sunday, teams can also participate in Maryland's "M"azing Race, a scavenger hunt run through text message. Test your Maryland knowledge and learn something new. Information about how to participate will be available at all events.
The week begins on Sunday, Oct. 11 with a tree planting in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and the Semester on Peace. Maryland is one of 10 campuses nationwide to be chosen for this honor. Come plant a tree in Morrill Quad from11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Lunch, t-shirts, and supplies will be provided.
On Monday, the TerpZone hosts the Homecoming Kick-Off, featuring music from WMUC, free food, and free bowling from 7-9 p.m. The Homecoming Committee will be there with prizes and information about the week's events.
Wednesday, stop by The Stamp Atrium from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for an Ice Cream Social. Share information about your student group or just come to mingle and relax between classes. That night, the Memorial Chapel will be the home of one of Homecoming's biggest traditions—the A Cappella Show. The best of Maryland's singing groups will perform at 6:30 p.m. Get there early for a good seat.
Thursday's events include the Pep Rally and SEE Comedy Show featuring Russell Peters and guest Kevin Nealon. Tickets are on sale now at the Hoff Box office. Information is online at www.see.umd.edu.
Friday ends a full week of events at Homecoming Parade. Get a good seat at one of three designated seating areas—LaPlata Hall, the Chemistry Building or the steps of Main Administration. The parade features a performance by Gymkana, floats, horses, and our 2009 Grand Marshal, Joy Bauer, Maryland grad and health expert for NBC's TODAY Show! After the parade, enjoy live music and food at the Post-Parade Party on McKeldin Mall.
