Sacred Valley of the Incas

From the magnificent view of the terraced stonework of Machu Picchu to the historic capital city of Lima, and from the beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas to timeless Cuzco, this exciting tour explores the ancient ruins and breathtaking landscapes of the fascinating country of Peru.

Day 1 Depart Miami shortly after midnight for your overnight Lan Peru flight to Lima.

Day 2 After a pre-dawn arrival in Lima, your comfortable room waits. Enjoy breakfast with fellow travelers and spend the morning relaxing. This afternoon, discover the treasures of the colonial yet modern capital while touring historic landmarks of the city. (B,D)

Day 3 In the morning, depart for a flight to Cuzco and enjoy a group lunch before continuing north into the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the fortress-city of Pisac. After arriving at the hotel, enjoy leisure time before attending an “Offering to the Earth” ceremony. (B,L,D)

Day 4 Today, enjoy a full-day exploration of the beautiful Sacred Valley featuring agricultural terraces virtually sculpted from the mountainsides. After lunch, investigate the massive ruins at Ollantaytambo, both a temple and a fortress, where work mysteriously halted centuries ago. (B,L,D)

Day 5 Early this morning, board a train for a short ride to Aguas Calientes and continue on to the fabled “Lost City of the Incas,” Machu Picchu. Discovered in 1911, this ancient city in the clouds defies imagination as it encompasses five square miles of terraced stonework linked by 3,000 steps. Enjoy lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge overlooking the ruins. (B,L,D)

Day 6 Enjoy a second guided tour of the ruins, stopping to admire the play of early morning shadows on the surrounding peaks. This afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and the opportunity to shop for some of Peru’s treasures. Afterwards, board a train for a 3 1/2 hour journey to Cuzco. (B,L)

Day 7 Discover Cuzco’s charms, the Incan Empire’s former capital and the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city. At noon, enjoy lunch hosted by local Cuzco families in their homes. The rest of the afternoon is yours. Wander Cuzco’s beautiful streets. Tonight, dine on your own and take in Cuzco’s nightlife. (B,L)

Day 8 Begin your daylong journey by motorcoach to Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Relax on the drive and marvel at the rugged, snow-capped Andes. After reaching the hotel, experience Puno on your own and catch a glimpse of some of the traditional Peruvian dances for which this area is known. (B,L)

Day 9 Explore Lake Titicaca, South America’s largest lake. Embark on a boat ride to visit the floating Isla de Los Uros and Isla Taquile. Tonight, gather with fellow travelers for a farewell dinner at the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 10 This morning, visit the mysterious round or square stone burial towers at Sillustani, overlooking Lake Umayo. Following our visit, transfer to the airport for our late afternoon flight to Lima. (B)

Day 11 Early this morning, depart for the airport and our flight to Miami, where you connect with your flights home. (B)
