Alumni Communications provides a two-way line of communication between Maryland alumni and their alumni association. The unit promotes alumni association programs through various print and electronic communication vehicles, such as event invitations, Terp magazine and broadcast e-mail and manages the associations Web site, including the TerpNation Network, an online career and social networking tool. In turn, Alumni Communications serves as first point of e-mail contact for alumni with questions or comments.
The Business Operations unit is responsible for all of the University of Maryland Alumni Association's financial matters. This includes all financial reports and transactions, bill payment, invoicing, insurance and more. In addition, this unit oversees all merchandise requests and sales as well as managing the Riggs Alumni Center brick campaign.
The Events Department coordinates and plans all alumni association events including Homecoming, reunions, the annual awards gala, hall of fame ceremonies, tailgates, summer send-offs and admissions events. The external events unit oversees more than 500 events annually that are held in the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, including weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, corporate meetings, retreats and formal dinners. In addition, the events team manages the production of and sells merchandise available to alumni at athletic events, online and at the new store located at the Riggs Alumni Center opening summer, 2008.
The Membership Unit supports the mission of the alumni association by increasing funding for alumni and student programming, promoting and retaining membership and cultivating relationships. The unit is responsible for processing membership payments; updating biographical information; managing membership campaign activities including direct mail and telemarketing; and managing campus benefits and affinity partnerships such as those with auto and health insurance companies. The unit also manages customer service activities via phone and is the first point of contact for visitors to the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
Volunteer Outreach helps strengthen the affinity for the alumni association among current students and all University of Maryland, College Park alumni by providing relevant programming and services.
