The Philip Merrill College of Journalism and the Colonnade Society hosted the third annual Shirley Povich Symposium, preceded by a VIP reception, which attracted more than 350 guests, at Cole Field House on Nov. 12, 2008. The main event drew more than 500 to witness sports figures and journalists Len Elmore '78, Sage Steele, Scott Van Pelt, Michael Wilbon and Gary Williams '68 serve as panelists and Kevin Blackistone and Maury Povich as moderators for this year's symposium topic: Sports, Race and the Media.
