Mentoring

University President Dan Mote has encouraged development of mentoring opportunities for undergraduate students across all of Maryland's many disciplines, and the involvement of alumni in mentoring programs. If you're a seasoned grad looking to support future professionals in your field or Maryland youth, or a student seeking career advice, join one of the programs below.

Take a Terp to Work If you’d like to give back to the University by assisting current undergraduates in their job search process and/or meet and recruit some of our top students, then decide to Take a Terp to Work. We invite you to participate in the University Career Center’s Terp Externship Program or to join our “rolodex” of alumni willing to connect with students regarding life after Maryland. We will serve as the liaison between you and current students to ensure the quantity and quality of your interactions. If you’re interested, please contact Kourtney Kleine Temple at ktemple@ur.umd.edu or 301.405.8071.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business currently implements a three-tiered model for MBA students with one for very senior, successful alumnus, five young alumni, and five MBA student protégés that receive one-on-one mentoring from the young alumni. Both young alumni and protégés will receive career coaching and feedback from the senior-level mentor. If you are interested in being a mentor to an MBA student, please forward your contact information to MentorPro@rhsmith.umd.edu.

Other opportunities are available at the University of Maryland Career Center at www.careercenter.umd.edu. The career center offers many resources for students and alumni including a resume referral program, career and employment resource room, job fairs and more.
