Social Programs: Reconnect with friends and classmates at one of our traditional social events. The Young Alumni Homecoming Kickoff (Oct. 16) is held the Friday night before each Homecoming football game. The Annual Valentine's Day Dinner Dance (Feb. 13) invites you to celebrate the love of your life on the campus you love. The Young Alumni BBQ on Maryland Day (April 24) is hosted at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center each spring.
Educational Programs: Fill in the blanks between your college education and the real world with programming designed to teach and enhance life skills such as financial planning, managing your 401(K) or buying your first home. Our next Financial Planning Workshop (Feb. 3) will include speakers on each of these topics so participants can customize the evening based on their own interests and challenges.
Mentoring Programs: Volunteer to Take a Terp to Work (deadline to apply is Oct. 23) during the students' winter session through this program, sponsored by the University Career Center. Let us know about your job opportunity and select from a pool of qualified students who apply to shadow you at your place of business during a 1-2 day externship in January. Past student leaders can also volunteer to network with current student leaders at the O.N.E. UMD Student Leaders Conference (April 18) and help students translate their leadership experiences on campus into a marketable professional skill set.
Recruitment Programs: Volunteer to help recruit new students to the University of Maryland through the Recruit-a-Terp Program. Represent the university at college fairs and local recruitment events in your area. Speak one-on-one and answer the questions of high school students who are considering a future at Maryland.
Philanthropic Programs: Join or organize a Terp Service Weekend (April 10 - 11) in your area and give back to your local community in the name of Maryland.
Apply to join the Young Alumni Committee: The alumni association works very closely with a group of approximately 30 young alumni volunteers to plan events and programs specifically for young alumni. This committee meets quarterly in College Park, but non-locals are also encouraged to participate via conference call.
Join or start a Regional Alumni Club: There are Terp alumni clubs across the country. Contact the alumni association to find out if there's one in your area. If not, why not start your own?
Host your event, meeting or celebration at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center. Visit www.riggs.umd.edu for rooms and rates.
