About Us: As students at the University of Maryland, many of us recall a close-knit and supportive black community. Now as alumni, we have a stronger appreciation, and greater need, for such a community. The University of Maryland Black Alumni (UMBA)*, has re-launched to reconnect black alumni with one another and the University. Together we have the power to impact issues that are important to our community and alma mater. We are nearly 17,000 strong and continue to grow with each graduating class.

The new UMBA leadership committee has identified key objectives:
    • Facilitate academic and professional development opportunities
    • Advocate for increased presence of black students and faculty at the University
    • Publicly recognize and promote the achievements of outstanding students, alumni and faculty
    • Facilitate the exchange of information involving UMCP that are relevant to the black community
    • Contribute resources (time, talent and financial) to initiatives that support our mission

UMBA has new initiatives and events geared toward these objectives. If you are interested in being on the ground-level of rebuilding UMBA by holding a position or want to stay informed of UMBA’s events and announcements please connect with us on Facebook, LinkedIn or by email: blackterp@gmail.com
