Sheida Gholamimehrabadi ’17 /accounting

“I picked Maryland because my parents and sister went here. My family goes to Maryland.”

When Sheida says her family goes to Maryland, she isn’t kidding. The Terp counts more 20 first cousins who also attended UMD. Thanks to her scholarship from the University of Maryland Alumni Association, Sheida can afford to focus on her studies and is maxing out her course load to get an early start in the workforce. By taking 50 credits this year, she’s on her way to graduating CPA-eligible so she can launch right into her career as a Certified Public Accountant. Sheida has already accepted a job offer and looks forward to “paying it forward to help other students” by returning to mentor students.

Dan Page ’17 / civil and environmental engineering

“When you can get some extra help from the Alumni Association, it really does go a long way.”

Dan lives for Maryland moments like cheering on the Terps at Xfinity Center with thousands of other fans wearing the red, black and gold, and sharing his pride with prospective students as a campus tour guide. As a Maryland Alumni Association scholarship recipient, Dan is grateful for the show of support fellow Terps have given him. “The University of Maryland cultivates an incredible talent pool and the best way I can see what that talent can become is by talking to alumni.”

Samantha Bingaman ’17 / environmental science and policy

“My scholarship lessens my financial burden so I can put more toward internships and study abroad.”

Samantha’s favorite Maryland courses are outside the classroom, and the country. She has studied environmental science and sustainable development in Costa Rica and Australia. Back on campus, she serves as circle president for the UMD chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society. Samantha appreciates that her scholarship comes from alumni and hopes to continue this legacy by making sustainable improvements on campus, in the community and around the world.

Esanye Ogbe ’17 / civil and environmental engineering

“Walking around campus, everyone enjoys being here and there is overwhelming diversity. This was the school for me.”

When Esanye chose the University of Maryland, he was looking for a school where he could be independent but also grow and develop. He’s done exactly that as part of the Student Alumni Leadership Council, working to raise students’ awareness of the Maryland Alumni Association. “Maryland has helped me grow in more ways than I could have thought of, and this is my opportunity to give back.”
