What is the contest?

Anyone who purchases a membership in the University of Maryland Alumni Association between Jan. 7 to Feb. 29, 2020 will automatically be entered into the raffle and qualifies as one (1) entry to win the VIP Maryland Basketball Fan Experience for two (2) (MSRP: approximately $2,000).

What is the prize?

There is one (1) grand prize of the VIP Maryland Basketball Fan Experience, taking place March 7-8, 2020. Prize includes a one-night stay at The Hotel at the University of Maryland on March 7, 2020 and two (2) premium tickets to the men’s basketball game against Michigan on March 8, 2020, plus much more. How do I enter?

By purchasing an Alumni Association membership online, over the phone or through the mail, you will be automatically entered to win. The contest drawing will be held on March 2, 2020. Limit one (1) entry per membership--single or joint. Click here to join or renew.

Yes, current annual and 3-year members can enter by renewing or upgrading their membership during the contest period. Current lifetime members can enter to win by filling out this form.

Official Contest Rules

By participating in the VIP Maryland Basketball Fan Experience raffle, you agree that:

  1. The contest will run from Jan. 7 to Feb. 29, 2020. All mailed membership purchases must be postmarked by Feb. 29, 2020. All online entries must be submitted by Feb. 29, 2020.
  2. Memberships purchased between Jan. 7 to Feb. 29, 2020, will be automatically entered into the contest. Limit one (1) entry per membership–single or joint.
  3. Your membership purchase automatically opts you into the VIP Maryland Basketball Fan Experience. Members entered into the VIP Maryland Basketball Fan Experience are not eligible to deduct their membership dues as a charitable contribution. Your purchase does include an optional $5 tax-deductible contribution, as allowed by law, to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. To opt out of the optional $5 tax-deductible contribution, the member must call 800.336.8627. To be eligible for a full tax deduction, the member must call 800.336.8627 and will be removed from the contest.
  4. The contest drawing shall be held at the University of Maryland, College Park on Monday, March 2, 2020. The winner will be randomly selected.
  5. Each entry is a chance to win the VIP Maryland Basketball Fan Experience for two (2) (the “prize”). MSRP: approximately $2,000. There will be no cash award alternative; the winner is entitled only to the prize. There will be only one prize awarded. Information about the experience itinerary and inclusions is available above.
  6. The odds of winning will be determined by the number of entrants.
  7. The winner does not need to be present to win. At the drawing, the winner will be contacted based on the name and information on the entry. Winner notification will be made by telephone and email. To redeem the prize, two forms of identification, one of which must be a photo ID will be required.
  8. The winner has 48 hours to claim the prize or forfeits all claims thereto. Backup winners will be drawn, but not announced, in case the first winner does not claim the prize within 48 hours, declines the prize or is otherwise ineligible.
  9. The winner’s name will be available starting on March 2, 2020, by submitting a written request to the University of Maryland Alumni Association, Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, Membership Processing, Suite 2144B, College Park, MD 20742.
  10. Participants must be at least 18 years old and living in the United States. The winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility at the discretion of the University of Maryland Alumni Association. 
  11. The winner is solely responsible for all fees, expenses and taxes related to the prize, including but not limited to: federal, state and local taxes. The University of Maryland Alumni Association has no liability with regard to taxes, expenses and fees for the prize.
  12. The University of Maryland Alumni Association specifically and expressly disclaims all express or implied warranties, including BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose WITH RESPECT TO the prize.
  13. The WINNER and his/her successors, heirs and assigns AGREES TO indemnify and TO HOLD the University of Maryland Alumni Association harmless for any and all claims, injuries or damages incurred or arising from or out of the prize and the winners’ acceptance and use thereof.
  14. In the event the winner is unable to utilize the prize, the University of Maryland Alumni Association is not obligated to provide an alternative prize, and has no liability to the winner beyond the refund of the price paid for membership.
  15. The winner agrees that the University of Maryland Alumni Association may use his/her name, address, photograph or videotape likeness, and statements for publicity purposes, and agrees to sign a publicity release without any further compensation as a condition of entering the contest.
  16. The University of Maryland Alumni Association reserves the right to cancel this contest if one or more of the following conditions exists: the contest prize becomes unavailable; the contest is deemed as illegal under federal, state and/or local law by a competent governmental agency or is challenged by other interested party; the association files bankruptcy or otherwise goes out of business; the university declares the contest unacceptable; the Board of Governors declares by majority vote to cancel the contest; the association finds that the contest prize was obtained in an unlawful manner; the association finds the contest to be in any way unlawful; or the association deems it is impossible to adequately complete the contest as publicized.
  17. University of Maryland Alumni Association employees and their immediate families are not eligible to win. Immediate family includes spouse, children and children’s spouses.
  18. The University of Maryland Alumni Association is the official sponsor of this contest.
  19. THIS CONTEST IS SUBJECT TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LAWS, AND IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED, TAXED TO THE ASSOCIATION, OR OTHERWISE RESTRICTED.
  20. All proceeds benefit the University of Maryland Alumni Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
  21. These official contest rules may not be waived, modified or supplemented except by the University of Maryland Alumni Association. No modification of these official contest rules shall be enforceable unless made by the University of Maryland Alumni Association in writing.
