Keynote speaker: Peter Emmons, Founder/CEO, Structural Group
Peter H. Emmons graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1973 with a BSCE and was one of the first to participate in the engineering Co-op program. In 1974, Peter founded and started Structural Preservation Systems, Inc, known today as STRUCTURAL Group, a services and technologies company specializing in making new and existing structures last longer and be stronger. This including buildings, bridges, and other civil and urban infrastructure. Today the company is the leading company in this field in the US and Middle East with over 2500 employees based in Columbia, MD. Peter has authored a best-selling industry book Concrete Repair and Maintenance Illustrated which is published in 7 languages. He is the recipient of numerous industry awards and has been named the most influential leader in the concrete industry. Peter is a patent holder on more than 7 inventions. Peter's industry work includes leading the creation of a code for the repair of concrete structures. Some noted structures Peter and his company have worked on include Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water and the NYC Guggenheim Museum, armoring of the new Freedom Tower in NYC, Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Baltimore Aquarium, Calvert Cliff Nuclear Plant, UMD XFinity Center and the world’s tallest building in Dubai, Burj Khalifa. For weekend fun, Peter builds Hobbit Houses, Stone Arch Bridges, zip lines, waterfall trails and restores historic homes.
Mr. Emmons will be giving a presentation on the importance of continuing education after college and of finding your own unique path through the engineering world.
