We know living through this pandemic isn't easy; it's nearly impossible to get together in a normal capacity or do good things around our area as a group. But we can still give back! Maryland alum Ashley Henyan '02 is the Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Lowcountry SC, and she has organized a blood drive for us! Donating blood with the American Red Cross can be a safe, brief break from your usual routine AND right now, the need for blood donations is urgent! Donating blood is safe and easy, and can potentially help save up to THREE lives! It's quick and easy, and so very important. From check-in to check-out, the entire visit only takes about an hour. AND all donors will receive a free Covid-19 Antibody test, with results available within 10 days via the Red Cross Blood Donor App. Read up on the Red Cross below.

Since we're a smaller group, we'll participate in the: Lowcountry Board of Directors Drive. (The Lowcountry Chapter of the American Red Cross is one of 671 Chapters across the U.S. The Board of Directors is an all-volunteer board of advisors who helps support lifesaving services across five lines of Red Cross service.). Click here to learn more about Blood Donor Eligibility

Safety Precautions at ALL Red Cross Blood Drives
  • Checking temperatures of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they are healthy.
  • Providing hand sanitizer for use before the drive, as well as throughout the donation process.
  • Following social distancing between donors including entry, donation and refreshment areas.
  • Wearing face masks or coverings for both staff and donors.
  • Routinely disinfecting surfaces, equipment and donor-touched areas.
  • Wearing gloves and changing gloves often.
  • Using sterile collection sets and an aseptic scrub for every donation.

We hope you can donate on December 1. Feel free to share this with your friends who might be interested in donating as well - just let them know to register under Lowcountry Terps!
