Monday, September 17, 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Lucien Parsons, founding Director of the Mixed/Augmented/Virtual Reality Innovation Center (MAVRIC), will introduce Terp alumni to the technologies of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality), talk about the University's leadership role in the technology, and discuss the realistic opportunities that are emerging therefrom. The Department of Defense alone committed $550M to VR and Investors poured over $2.5Bn into the field in 2017. Despite that, the 'reality' is that we don't yet have the SnowCrash Metaverse or Ready Player One's OASIS yet, nor are we likely to in the near future. We will instead talk about where the tangible opportunities are for investors and creators over the near term, and what fundamental technologies to watch for the next potential breakthrough.
