The university continues to actively monitor the novel coronavirus ("COVID-19") outbreak and provide regular updates to our community. We all play a role in preventing the spread of COVID-19, and we are taking measures to better protect all Terps. As a result, this event is canceled.

Virtual programs including webinars, online book clubs, and other online programs will continue as planned.

What influences you? Hear from influential Black Terp alumnae who were inspired to move their careers forward while navigating their spaces as black women. Learn their stories, harness the power of their impact, and discover how to become your own InfluenceHER.

This event will feature an interactive panel discussion with top-level Black Terps and include drinks with a brunch buffet. During the event you will meet fellow Terps and expand your network.

Lanta Evans-Motte is an entrepreneur and independent financial advisor with more than 30 years of professional experience.  A community advocate, Ms. Evans-Motte has received national recognition for her contributions and leadership with numerous community service and non-profit organizations. She serves on the Advisory Board for the Greater Washington Community Foundation in Prince Georges County; and was appointed to the Prince Georges County Commission for Women. Ms. Evans-Motte holds a B.S. in Accounting and an M.B.A. in Finance and Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Tricia is the Executive Communication Coach at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland (UMD). Tricia specializes in: one on one coaching, executive communication coaching, diversity training, board and organizational assessments and using those assessments to aid in team building and organizational development. Tricia offers workshops, one-on-one sessions and group coaching that addresses students’ oral presentation skills. Tricia is a co-founder of HGVenture, LLC a mission-driven management consulting firm. As a former Miss Virgin Islands and the winner of the Miss Congeniality Award at the 2005 Miss Universe Pageant, she is a proven and accomplished public speaker for large and diverse audiences.

Shawne Morgan is a wife, mom & business owner, who believes in utilizing her skillset to build multiple income streams. She is a lawyer with over 25 years of experience. She also owns a healthy hair company that sells products to individuals and salons across the globe. Shawne serves as a Realtor in the DC metro area, assisting people with buying and selling homes. She encourages women and young girls to pursue their passions and not be afraid of taking risks. It was her love of adventure and travel that landed her on Season 16 of the Amazing Race.  Shawne holds a B.A in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park and a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Melanie A. Nix is a transformational speaker, writer, and triple negative breast cancer survivor.  A Resilience Coach and Health and Wellness Advocate, she has been a spokeswoman and profiled by several media outlets including NBC Nightly News and OZY.  Melanie has earned invitations from The Obama White House and The Biden Vice President’s Residence to share her experiences.  She combines lessons from her corporate, entrepreneurial and personal experiences on preserving moxie and being indefatigable in the face of devastation.  In additional to co-managing a consultancy business with her husband, she is a podcaster and a runner.  She holds a Master of Business Administration from Robert H. Smith School of Business – University of Maryland, College Park and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.  Melanie lives with her husband, son, and daughter.
