Friday Five: Commencement 2022
Friday Five: Commencement 2022
Welcome to the Friday Five, a roundup of the best your Alumni Association and other UMD communities have to offer. From the latest events to fun facts, here are essentials in five categories for you to check out this weekend.
1. What's Happening
- Spring 2022 Commencement — May 20 | Noon EDT
The University of Maryland is thrilled to have Summer 2021, Winter 2021 and Spring 2022 graduates at Maryland's campuswide Spring 2022 Commencement. Those who can't make it to campus can livestream the event via the 2022 Commencement website.
Coming to campus for the main ceremony on Friday, May 20? Celebrate with your Alumni Association from 1:30-3 p.m. EDT at Moxley Gardens, located outside the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center (right across from the stadium). There will be fun photo ops, raffle prizes and drinks, plus all students wearing regalia will receive one free drink ticket!
2. Quotables
- Inspiring Terp Alums Share Experiences at Terps Under 30
"On April 6, current Terps and Terp alums gathered together for the Student Alumni Leadership Council’s (SALC) fifth annual Terps Under 30 hallmark event. Terps Under 30 is a national award-winning event that aims to connect students and alums through a TED talk-style program featuring keynote alum speakers all under the age of 30." Athena Sackleh ’22 and Amir Kalantary ’22, Alumni Blog.
3. A Little Fun
- Finding ‘Unity,’ Healing in Art
"Against a placid cerulean sky, a pair of hands releases multicolored birds to fly among words of peace and justice floating amid the clouds—a plea for hope created by students at Bowie State University and the University of Maryland after a shocking tragedy engulfed both campuses."
4. In Your Terp Community
- Residence Hall Essentials Get New Lease on Life at Campus ‘ReStore’
"The move into your first off-campus apartment doesn’t need to detour to the dump. Sure, it might be lights out for your multicolored floor lamp in your new digs, or lowered expectations for plastic bed risers. But Terps living in residence halls next fall could find that décor to die for. The Department of Resident Life this week is expanding a pilot program called the Terp to Terp Campus ReStore, collecting small appliances, room accessories, kitchen items and school supplies to pass on to other UMD students for free."
5. Friendly Reminders
