Do Good Month Volunteer Spotlight - Eric Glazer ’11
Do Good Month Volunteer Spotlight - Eric Glazer ’11
What does "do good" mean to you?
"Do good" means doing something to have a positive benefit that helps others. Even if it's something small that only affects one person, that's still "doing good" and making a positive impact. However, if it can benefit multiple people or even a whole community, even better! No good deed is too small to "do good."
What inspired you to begin volunteering?
I am a proud UMD alum. I had a fantastic experience during my time as an undergrad student, and I want to help as many students have that same experience I was lucky enough to have. Additionally, I work in the entertainment industry, which I know is an industry many students want to enter, so I want students to have that connection.
What is the name of the organization you choose to volunteer your time?
I volunteer my time with multiple units within the University of Maryland, including the Department of Communication, the Career Center and the Alumni Association.
What do you do in your volunteer role to make an impact?
I speak at various panels and help mentor students both in person and virtually.
What makes you continue to come back and volunteer?
My connection with the UMD community. I also have a positive experience each time I volunteer and UMD students continue to impress me. Some students have even gone on to intern with my company, where I am the internship coordinator.
Were you a part of any student groups while you were at UMD?
I was involved with the SEE security and tech teams. It was almost a predecessor of sorts to where I am today, and I helped ensure the UMD community had as enjoyable and safe an experience as possible.
What message would you give students today to encourage them to seek opportunities to make a positive impact in their communities?
Seeking opportunities to make a positive impact in your community is a great way to use your time. You will feel good doing it, and you never know the size of the impact doing good will have. You also never know who you will meet and the impact it will have on an individual or the community. It may even end up being a mutually beneficial experience that could change your life as well!
