Friday Five: Get Ready for Women's History Month
Friday Five: Get Ready for Women's History Month
Welcome to the Friday Five, a roundup of the best your Alumni Association and other UMD communities have to offer. From the latest events to fun facts, here are essentials in five categories for you to check out this weekend.
1. What's Happening
- Women's History Month - March, 2022
A nationally recognized celebration throughout March, Women's History Month originated as Women's History Week in 1981. Since then, each March honors the achievements of women across the world. This year, your Alumni Association will celebrate Women's History Month with several events brought to you by academic, regional and affinity alum networks.
Calling all women-identifying Terps! As part of Women's History Month, we want to feature women Terp businesses for our #TerpBusiness spotlights. Submit your business information here for a chance to be featured.
2. Quotables
- 10 for TEN: Serena Rosa ’11
"After having her baby, Serena Rosa ’11 started to look at healthcare with a different perspective. Realizing the lack of support provided to women after birth, she created The Postpartum Doctor, a space where postpartum mothers can receive the care they need to flourish alongside their babies."

3. A Little Fun
"Nibbling on a French macaron seems an unusual way to celebrate Lunar New Year, non? But then you haven’t yet seen the adorable face of a tiger cub, delicately worded symbols for luck or the smiley mandarin orange on the cookies handmade by a recent University of Maryland alum and online bakery owner. Caroline Ta ’21 runs Sweets by Caroline out of her parents’ Germantown, Md., kitchen, where she creates whimsical and sophisticated desserts that recently garnered a shout-out from Washingtonian magazine in an article on fun ways in the DMV to celebrate the Year of the Tiger today.”
4. In Your Terp Community
Local DMV Terps — You're invited to celebrate EnTERPreneurship and the launch of the new Terp Referral Exchange Business Directory at Terp-owned The Hall CP, located in the heart of the Discovery District.
5. Friendly Reminders
Are you interested in finding other Terps in your area? Want to reconnect with an old college friend? The Alumni Directory allows you locate former classmates, roommates and friends, as well as meet fellow Terps in your location. You can also customize the type of news and communications you want to recieve from your Alumni Association. Create your directory profile here, or update your information to get the most relevant news here.
That's it for this week, Terps. Make sure to check back with us every Friday, and update your information in the alumni directory to always receive the latest from your Alumni Association. Have a lovely weekend!
