With more than 61,000 pizzerias spread like pepperoni across the American landscape, there’s no shortage of competition for your palate. Luke Watson ’18, CEO of Washington, D.C.-based Timber Pizza, thinks he knows what will have you coming back for more.

“Our crust is king,” he says. “We’re all about the dough. It’s a step above the rest.”

There are few greater thrills than seeing your chamber opera performed at New York’s Kennedy Center. Just ask Jarrod Lee ’10 M.M., who wrote the libretto – or text – for “Oshun,” which is part love story, part adventure tale. It was staged at the famed venue on January 21, 2023.

Alumni Excellence Awards: Legacy Award Winner Sapienza Barone '77

Few people can boast to UMD Dining Services naming an ice cream flavor in their honor. One of those few is Sapienza Barone ‘77, who retired in 2018 after working 41 years at the university, including 25 years as executive assistant for three presidents. “Sapienza,” a rich vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate chips, chunks of fudge brownie, a chocolate swirl, and crème de cacao, was created to honor Barone’s long service to Maryland.
