Anna Portela ‘14 never makes a career decision without doing her homework.

Coming from a family of Terps, Gabriela Winter ‘22 is serving as the Student Alumni Leadership Council’s (SALC) 2021 president. 

A global pandemic created a unique work experience for this 2020 University of Maryland grad. As a public health major, she knows her role is increasingly vital each day, so she is pursuing a master’s degree in epidemiology. 

Ashley Sundquist ‘09 has a passion for service, and she found her calling when she noticed a need for help in the homeless community in her home of Santa Monica, California.

On March 7, 2020, more than 200 business-minded Terps gathered at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center for the inaugural EnTERPpreneur Conference. They were greeted with big ideas and little bottles of hand sanitizer, as a novel coronavirus began to spread across the U.S.

With the many University of Maryland Alumni Association affinity groups, the large presence of Jewish students who have and continue to attend the university, and the strong and vibrant Hillel community, who would imagine that until 2020 there was not a Jewish alumni group in place? 

This class of 2020 alumna did not take a direct path in earning multiple degrees. She went on to earn a Ph.D. while prioritizing her family life.
