Legacy Award: Rebecca Evans Carroll Ed.D. ’66
Author, educator and former deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Baltimore City Public Schools, Carroll became the first African American woman to earn a doctorate from UMD (1962). She is a 2021 recipient of the Alumni Excellence Awards. Photo provided by The Baltimore Sun, 1983.
EnTERPrenuer Award: Brett Schulman ’95
Under Schulman’s direction, the Mediterranean fast-casual chain CAVA has expanded to almost 300 restaurants in 24 states, including a location in College Park. He is a 2021 recipient of the Alumni Excellence Awards.
EnTERPrenuer Award: Steve Touw ’99
Touw and his UMD Discovery District-based company created software that enables legal and ethical use of data while protecting privacy. He is a 2021 recipient of the Alumni Excellence Awards.
EnTERPrenuer Award: Cate Luzio ’97
Luzio founded Luminary, a collaboration hub for women to develop, network and connect. She recently expanded her online programs to reach women across the country and is a recipient of the 2021 Alumni Excellence Awards.
