What We Do

What We Do

SALC hosts many spectacular events each year. Check out some of our most popular ones:

Grad bash

Grad Bash

Grad Bash is a large celebration of all of the graduating seniors that is held directly after Ring Ceremony. Grad Bash is held in Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, with food, drinks, and prizes. Seniors have the opportunity to relax with friends and celebrate their final days at Maryland.

SALCers at the Homecoming tailgate

Homecoming Tailgate with SALC Alums

As a part of the Alumni Association's annual Homecoming Tailgate, each year SALC has a presence inviting SALC alums back home to campus to celebrate Homecoming.

Tours

Alumni Tours

Alumni Tours give donors and VIP alumni the chance to go on a specialized tour of campus. The SALC has a set route, but can customize the tour based on the preferences of those attending. This gives alumni the chance to see new buildings on campus and visit their favorite spots from when they were students.

Charter day

Charter Day

Charter Day, celebrated every year on March 6, honors the chartering of the Maryland Agricultural College in 1856. More than 400 students gather around the Testudo statue in front of McKeldin mall and throw a “birthday party” for the university. This event fosters school pride on campus and informs students about the founding of the university.

SALC's Bend and Bagels event

Bend & Bagels

Bend & Bagels is a signature event during fall welcome week. Students are joined by a UMD alum for an hour-long yoga class followed by light refreshments and bagels. Yoga experience of all levels welcome!

Terps under 30

Terps Under 30

Terps Under 30, SALC’s largest event, is a TED-talk style program held at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center. The event includes a networking hour and a dessert reception featuring four recent graduates from various class years, academic colleges and industries. This event attracts over 200 current students and alumni.

SALCers tabling during Terps Tradition Month

Terp Traditions Month

Terp Traditions Month, typically held the same month as Homecoming, is an accumulation of all things relating to the M Book, pin pickup, and Maryland traditions. The purpose of Terp Traditions Month is to ease some of the confusion that comes with our former bucket list pin pickup system, to coordinate efforts with other student organizations, and for students to more distinctly recognize SALC and our campus events, while fostering school spirit across the student body.

Terp legacy reception

Terp Legacy Reception

Hosted during Family Weekend, the Terp Legacy Reception is an annual event that invites current students and their Terp alum family members back to campus to connect with each other, hear a few campus updates and enjoy a happy hour style reception.

SALCers passing out the M Book

M Book

The M Book is the guide to the student experience at the University of Maryland. Books are delivered to first-year students at various campus-wide and Alumni Association events.
