University of Maryland Chicago Alumni

WELCOME    CLUB STEERING COMMITTEE     UPCOMING EVENTS

Welcome to the Windy City!

The Chicago chapter of the University of Maryland Alumni Association is one of the newest and fastest-growing chapters in the country, tapping into a pool of hundreds of Maryland graduates in the Chicago area.

Whether you’re a recent transplant or a Chicago native, a university alum or just a passionate Terp fan, we hope to be a resource for you in Chicago to connect with others and celebrate our ties to the university.

As the first chapter to be chartered in the Midwest — in the city that's home to more Big Ten alumni than any place else in the country — we’re on the front lines of one of the biggest changes in the university’s history, as Maryland is set to join the Big Ten on July 1. The members of our chapter are excited to engage with others in the Chicago community and all of the Midwest and to represent our alma mater proudly.

Check this page regularly to learn more about upcoming events, networking opportunities and more. Also make sure to like us on Facebook, join us on LinkedIn and follow us on Twitter.

Game Watches & Upcoming Events

A new official University of Maryland bar in Chicago: George Street Pub!

The Chicago Terps are excited to announce a new partnership with George Street Pub, located at 2858 N. Halsted St. in Chicago's Lakeview Neighborhood. Just a short walk from several CTA Red and Brown Line stations, George Street Pub will be the place to meet up with the Big Ten's newest alumni base.
Make sure to check our Facebook group for the most up-to-date event plans!

April is Terp Service Month!

Our club will be traveling to the Danada Forest Preserve in west suburban Wheaton on Sunday, April 27!

From 1-3:30 p.m., we will assist with park preservation, primarily helping to remove invasive plant species.

Danada Forest Preserve. Hooray, nature!

To sign up, email Events & Social Chair Caroline Soble ('13) at cjsoble@gmail.com. Volunteers will need to bring a signed waiver, and those under 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign for them. You will receive your waiver when you sign up.

The Danada Forest Preserve is located on Naperville Road between Butterfield and Warrenville roads, just off Interstate 88. We will be arranging carpools for those in the city — if you are available to drive, please let Caroline know in your email.

After our project, join us at Nichol De Vita James' house in Lombard for a post-party starting at 4 p.m. Please BYOB and a dish to share, if possible!
Contact Nichol at nichol.james.terp@gmail.com for her address and directions.

July 26, 2014 — Big Ten Network Big10K Event

It's the third year the Big Ten has hosted this event on the Chicago lakefront, but it's the first time Maryland can join the party!

The Big Ten is where the history is rich, the loyalty fierce, where traditions are celebrated, and the passion of fans is unmatched. Represent your school proudly and be a part of the 3rd annual BTN Big 10K event in Chicago on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Compete for your school in the 10K race or 5K run/walk, then kick-off the college football season in style with thousands of Big Ten fans at the ultimate post-race FanFest & tailgate party!

Saturday, July 26, 2014
Soldier Field
1410 Museum Campus Dr., Chicago, IL 60605

Registration for the 5K and 10K races is now open at btnbig10k.com. Details on a Chicago Terps pre- or post-race event will be posted in the future. Make sure to enter "BTNMARYLAND" upon registration so our chapter gets some of the proceeds!

Past Events

Thanks to everyone for joining us on Feb. 4 for a fantastic event! A particular thank you to Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany and other conference staff for joining us and making our alumni feel so welcome in Chicago's Big Ten community. We're very hopeful for things to come!
