Terps at Work: Melisa Jangbahadur '24
Melisa Jangbahadur's '24 time at the University of Maryland equipped her with a strong foundation in electrical engineering, leading to an internship and subsequent full-time role at Northrop Grumman, where she now works as an Electrical Engineer. Her experience at UMD not only opened doors to professional opportunities but also provided cherished memories, like attending homecoming events, that she continues to enjoy as an alumna.

Q: Why did you choose UMD?
A: I knew UMD had a really good engineering program. I also knew getting my masters from a great school like UMD would open the door to many opportunities.
Q: Do you have any general fond UMD memories you'd like to share?
A: Attending the homecoming football game and carnival were really fun. Now as an alum, I hope to continue to attend these events

Q: Who is your current employer and what is your title?
A: Northrop Grumman, Electrical Engineer
Q: What has your career path been like? How did you end up where you are?
A: I first got an internship at Northrop Grumman after my first year of my masters. After my internship concluded, I was offered a full time position following my graduation from UMD with my masters. I was very excited when I was offered a full time position as I really enjoyed the work I did.
Q: What are some skills that have served you well through your career so far?
A: Time management and organization have been extremely helpful in my career
Q: Do you have any cool hobbies/side projects you'd like to tell us about?
A: After work I like to come home and play my dholak and tabla.
Q: What are some life lessons you’d like to share with current students at UMD?
A: School is difficult and the journey through school isn't going to be what you thought or go how you planned, and that's okay! Adjust your plan/journey and you'll be really glad you didn't quit when you end up working in your dream field.
Q: Any advice on how to transition from college life to “real” life?:
A: Kind of like in school, plan your days out. Keep track of everything you need to do day to day at work and at home, but also make time to relax.
