Before You Graduate
1. Participate in the Senior Class Gift Initiative
Leave your legacy and be a part of Maryland’s senior class gift tradition. Contribute a one time, $10 donation to the senior class gift fund and receive a custom Terp Alum tassel charm to wear at all Commencement activities. Students who participate will also be recognized at the Main Commencement Ceremony in May.
All proceeds from the class gift will go towards the Keep Me Maryland Fund, which provides emergency funding to students who are at risk of leaving the university due to unmet financial need. This fund was selected by a group of your Class of 2024 peers.
There are 3 ways to participate in the senior class gift initiative:
1. You can add the senior class gift donation to your online regalia purchase as an "accessory" item OR purchase the "legacy package" which includes the $10 donation amount in the package cost.
2. You can contribute in store at Grad Fair (March 5-6) at the University Book Center in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union.
3. You can donate on Giving Day (March 6) to the Senior Class Gift Fund.
All graduating students who participate in the senior class gift fund will receive a special turtle shell tassel charm, to add to your graduation cap.
Keep Me Maryland provides emergency funding to students who are at risk of leaving the university due to unmet financial need.
Founded during the worst of the national economic crisis in 2009, the fund gets requests from over 3,000 students every year who are facing family financial loss or illness, or who are simply struggling independently to pay utility bills, buy books and food. 100% of donor contributions are used to assist students who would otherwise drop out of school. Your gifts really do make a difference: 92% of fund recipients have graduated or are still here at Maryland.
Over 600 students have been assisted and over $1.4m awarded, with an average award of $2,000 per student. Funds may be used toward tuition, books, housing, food, anything the student needs to finish their studies at Maryland.
Yes, in order to be recognized as a senior class gift participant at the Main Commencement Ceremony, you must donate by April 17.
2. Check out the Commencement website
Wondering when your individual academic college ceremony is? Need information to share with your friends and family about Commencement? Be sure to check out the Commencement website at commencement.umd.edu.
3. Finish your Bucket List items
Be sure to finish all 20 items on our M Book Bucket List before you graduate! For every 5 items that you complete, you'll receive a commemorative pin. When you complete all 20, you'll receive our Traditions Keeper medallion to proudly wear at Commencement.
