Monday Roundup: Last Chance for Maryland in Manhattan Tickets

Welcome to the Monday Roundup, a roundup of the best your Alumni Association and other UMD communities have to offer. From the latest events to fun facts, here are essentials in five categories for you to check out this week.

1. What's Happening
Maryland in Manhattan

- Maryland in Manhattan — May 25 | 6-10 p.m. EDT

Last chance to purchase your tickets to Maryland in Manhattan! Join us for a memorable evening with alums and friends featuring food, an open bar, live music and UMD celebrity appearances. During this event, we will also honor four amazing Terps with the Terrapin Connector Award.

2. Quotables

Alumnae Igniting Change Panel

- Empowering Alumnae Igniting Change

"On March 14, 2022, in celebration of Women’s History Month, members of the UMD community had the opportunity to hear from three driven alumnae working to make an impact in the nonprofit world. Partnering with the Do Good Institute, a campus group working to educate students on having a social impact, the Student Alumni Leadership Council (SALC) moderated the Women Igniting Change Panel, creating a platform for these women to share their experiences, lessons and takeaways from their work." Brian Spates '22, Alumni Blog.

3. A Little Fun

- Terp After Terp (After Terp After Terp After Terp)

"Terp families are as common as Maryland flag-themed gear or tins of Old Bay around here. Some students have grandparents who flirted over ice cream at the University of Maryland Dairy, while a few parents visit their freshmen in the same North Campus residence hall they once lived in."

4. In Your Terp Community

- Edward Maclary to Retire After Two Decades of Shaping Choral Activities at UMD

"Edward Maclary considered his career as a professor and a conductor to be a mix of two things: great teachers and dumb luck. As a kid, when he tried to get out of his high school marching band, he found himself attracted to choir, which his mentors and teachers only ever encouraged."
